Tips For Moving House
19-02-2015 Blog
Moving is exciting, hard work and can be very stressful. To make sure the experience is a smooth running one, we have put together some tips we think will be of use! The key is to think and plan ahead…
Book a Removal Company
Six weeks before moving, you should be booking the removal company, book any extra storage (if required), buy all the boxes and tape that you will need and let friends and family know that you will be requiring their help. This all seems pretty quick and easy; the hard part is the big clear out!
Decluttering
At this time you should start going through all of your unwanted items and sell, give or throw them away; it may even be worth hiring a skip so you can dispose of all of it at once. This decluttering will also help you to see if you need to order new furniture or other items for you new home.
Write a Packing List
Make sure you make a priority packing list which includes the items you will need first in your new home. It is unlikely that you will be able to unpack everything on moving in day so make sure you have easy access to the things you need.
Start Packing Early
Two weeks before moving in, you should be starting to pack smaller items such as books and CDs, and organising the redirection of mail, childcare or petcare. Pack an overnight bag for everyone with enough toilet roll and toiletries. Another must have is a mini first aid kit with plasters and painkillers just incase you nick yourself or have an untimely headache.
A great packing tip is to start at the top of the house and work your way down, keeping yourself organised and if you still have stuff in the loft to get rid of, it’s a good place to start.
Finally as a golden rule, as packing always takes longer than expected, start extra early!
