Working From Home: Essentials of a Productive Home Office

Your workspace should be more than just a flat surface to get things done. It should be a place that helps you think clearly and work comfortably. From choosing the right lighting to organizing your storage and structuring your day, small changes can make a big difference. Here’s how to build a space that supports your productivity and your peace of mind.

Storage
Making sure you have functionable, and stylish storage is another key point in making a workspace. Theres no use having piles upon piles of paperwork with no room for a filing system. Space conscious designs like vertical shelving are popular options for a fun finish with practical function.
Height adjustable desks are also a popular option for a smaller room, especially if you’re working from home often, standing for a few hours a day can help with posture and blood flow.
Its bets to avoid big wardrobes and boxes, as these will not only cramp the space, but you will inevitably end up stacking. And stacked boxes are a sure-fire way of encouraging clutter. Openness, and easy access to all your files will ease the instinct to hoard paperwork you don’t need. It will also help make the workspace more inviting, with no large storage units shadowing the desk.
Lighting
An essential but often overlooked part of any workspace is the lighting! Whether this is artificial, or natural, its key in the comfort and functionality of the space. A desk is no good if it’s got no natural light, and an overhead spotlight. The same way that you don’t want the sun to reflect of your screen so brightly you can’t see.
Choosing your lighting setup is important, maybe with a softer overhead light and a warmer desk lamp. Check where the sun streams in and maybe invest in blind. Lighting is everything when it comes to a workplace

Structure Your Day
Working from home can be difficult to adjust to, especially when you are home long term. Making sure you have a designated workspace is important, and to help with the work/ home divide, make sure to structure your day with routine and clarity.
Take breaks, and minimise distractions during your ‘on’ time to help train your brain into knowing when it is time to focus and lock in. Setting boundaries will also be instrumental with this. By having more designated space and time you’ll be able to avoid too much personal and work mixing.
Comfort
As well as organising kind lighting, remember to make the space comfortable! Nothing is worse than sitting in an unsupportive chair for 4 hours as you work on a report. Investing in an ergonomical chair, possibly even a wrist support, or even a platform for your keyboard to sit a little higher, or at an angle is highly important in the grand scheme of workspaces.
Keeping screens eye level and investing in a footrest shouldn’t be second thoughts! They’re important for both you and your back.

Finishing Touches
As well as making the space, practical, functional, and ergonimical, you should make it yours. Get that succulent for the desk, buy the fun push pins to add some colour to your corkboard. Working at home should be productive and comfortable, so hopefully these tips can help!
