Harrietsham is a picturesque village that lies on the lower slopes of the stunning North Downs, and just seven miles from the major town of Maidstone; the county town of Kent. It has a population of around 2000 according to the 2011 census and is very attractive to the eye, featuring a variety of classic rural England architecture.
The History of Harrietsham
Having been noted on the Domesday Book of 1086, it’s likely Harrietsham has stood there for at least a millennium. The village’s manor was owned by several famous aristocratic families through the centuries and many of the buildings have listed status due to their importance as artefacts of England’s past. These include The Old House, East Street, and the Saxon Church of St John the Baptist.

Harrietsham’s Transport Links
The village is bypassed by the artery road the A20, which links Maidstone and Ashford. It is also near to the M20 and the High-Speed railway, with a station based in Harrietsham, meaning journeys to London or further south and east in Kent are very quick and easy however you prefer to travel.
For those who enjoy exploring on foot, Harrietsham is home to various scenic walking routes including the famous Pilgrims Way, which runs all the way from London to Canterbury.

The nearest town of Maidstone has a wide range of transport links, shopping opportunities and entertainment facilities including cinema, bowling alley, and leisure centre. Harrietsham is also just a few minutes’ drive from popular Leeds Castle, a breathtaking piece of historic architecture set in lovely grounds which offers annual events including outdoor cinema, Christmas market, and classical concert.
The village itself has a local shop and pub, as well as Primary School and Doctors surgery. The nearby market village of Lenham offers bakery, post office, several cafes, hairdressers, Chinese takeaway and Co-op among other things.
